Jordan Baseman, A Different Kind of Different

A Different Kind of Different is an animated short film by Jordan Baseman that charts the psychological impact of breast cancer. The film premiered in January 2021 with a series of online screenings and illustrated talks.
We worked with Jordan and Matt’s Gallery to build a custom platform to deliver three ambitious and accessible online events. Each 90 minute event included multiple speakers, a mix of live and pre-recorded presentation, BSL-interpreters and live text captions from StageText.
Using Streamlabs OBS we simultaneously broadcast live to the Kind of Different site (via Mux) and a backup Twitch channel. (Twitch suspended our account mid-way through the third event, after violating their adult nudity policy 🤦🏽.)
Audience members could submit questions during the event, which were moderated behind the scenes and passed to the panel. The text input for questions included an optional speech-to-text feature, allowing users to dictate their messages.
We designed and built both the holding page and documentation site to accompany the project. The design of both referred to the film’s titles by Phil Baines, starkly set in Andale Mono.
